Porous Molecular Solids and Liquids

Until recently, porous molecular solids were isolated curiosities with properties that were eclipsed by porous frameworks, such as metal-organic frameworks. Now molecules have emerged as a functional materials platform that can have high levels of porosity, good chemical stability, and, uniquely, solution processability. The lack of intermolecular bonding in these materials has also led to new,...

Constructing covalent organic frameworks in water via dynamic covalent bonding

The formation of keto-enamine based crystalline, porous polymers in water is investigated for the first time. Facile access to the Schiff base reaction in water has been exploited to synthesize stable porous structures using the principles of Dynamic Covalent Chemistry (DCC). Most credibly, the water-based Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) possess chemical as well as physical properties such a...

Targeted synthesis of a porous borazine-linked covalent organic framework.

The first microcrystalline borazine-linked polymer, BLP-2(H), has been synthesized. BLP-2(H) crystallizes into 2D sheets that stack in an eclipsed AA fashion, has high thermal stability (∼420 °C) and high porosity (SA(BET) = 1178 m(2) g(-1)) and it can store up to 2.4 wt% of hydrogen at 77 K and 15 bar with isosteric heat of adsorption of 6.8 kJ mol(-1).

Hollow tubular porous covalent organic framework (COF) nanostructures.

Hollow and tubular TpPa-COF structures have been synthesized by template-assisted replication of nanometer sized ZnO-nanorods. The hollow structures composed of microporous TpPa shells have high periodicity, moderate porosity, chemical stability and capsule shaped morphology as revealed by X-ray diffraction, porosity measurements, and SEM and TEM analyses.

Magnetoelectric effect in organic molecular solids

The Magnetoelectric (ME) effect in solids is a prominent cross correlation phenomenon, in which the electric field (E) controls the magnetization (M) and the magnetic field (H) controls the electric polarization (P). A rich variety of ME effects and their potential in practical applications have been investigated so far within the transition-metal compounds. Here, we report a possible way to re...
